Company profileSECH management of the container terminal at Calata Sanità was established in 1993 as a consequence of the privatisation of what used to be a public company running several areas in the port of Genoa. In the many years that have elapsed since then the company has successfully fought to strongly remain in a very competitive market such as the one of the North Tyrrhenian Sea: in fact, with more than 300,000 TEU handled in 2010 and a maximum yearly capacity of 500,000 TEU, SECH is among the main container terminals in the Liguria - Tuscany range. The terminal can be easily accessed either by sea (transit time for ships, from the pilots station to the quay, is less than an hour) and by land, being situated a few hundred metres from the nearest motorway gate as well as the Campasso railway station. In order to meet the changing technical specifications generated by ongoing vessel upsizing, at the end of 2009 SECH embarked on an ambitious investment programme on the five quay cranes and, although work will be completed within the first months of 2012 with the delivery of the last quay crane being revamped, the terminal is already capable of operating large ships (10,000 TEU) with four cranes equipped with a 19-row outreach. In addition, thanks to investments in human resources, equipment and IT, SECH confirms its willingness to be a cutting-edge facility representing a key access point with respect to production areas located in northern Italy and southern Europe. SECH uses a Quality Management System based on UNI EN ISO 9001:2008 which the company joined in 2002 and complements the normal observance of safety regulations with respect to the requirements of the international standard OHSAS 18001. |
